I am so excited to write about this, I can hardly type! But trust me, you want to read this.
Bespoke Registry is, like, the best thing to ever happen to weddings in South Africa. Basically, the owner, Laura [who is stylish and pretty and very friendly] came to sunny South Africa from not-so-sunny London and found our wedding registries a little bit sucky. Brides were having to do several registries to cover all their bases. And even then, it’s not like you can to choose awesome designery things or luxurious egyptian cotton or one-of-a-kind furniture or anything special. A lot of it is pretty straightforward stuff that everyone has in their homes.
And so Laura started Bespoke registry. Firstly, you have a consultation with Laura and [at her very, very gorgeous home in Cape Town], during which you discuss what you want, need, and like, and the brands and products she has on offer. To give you an idea, here is a small selection:
- House and Interiors
- Block and Chisel
- Exclusive Books
- Trowbridge Gallery, UK
- LaLa Linen
- Miss Lyn
- Le Creuset
- Laid Back Co
- Fortis Hotelware
- Bohemia Crystal
- Joseph and Joseph
- Mason and Cash
- Global Knives
- Chef’n Cheese
- Charlotte Rhys
So you have thousands of products to choose from. During your consultation Laura will draw up a list of everything you want on your registry. These are then uploaded to your own registry online at BespokeRegistry.co.za. At a later stage, you will also visit some of the stores listed above [with Laura] and choose some items from these stores. Oh, you know. Koi plates and hurricane lanterns and Bengali throws. We need these things in our homes! These are also added to your online registry.
The online registry is as simple as searching the couple’s names, and then clicking on their registry. Guests will then find a list of gifts, along with quantities, price, and what it is. More expensive items are listed as “contribute towards” gifts- people can chip in however much they want, and in the end several people would have bought you one expensive gift. Guests select an item [or several!], the quantity they want to buy, and proceed to check out. They have the option to add R6.50 onto the price to have gifts wrapped, like this:
A few weeks after your registry is closed, the gifts will be delivered [either wrapped or in Bespoke bags] to your door! In our case this will be during our honeymoon, so Laura will literally have a key to our place and drop the gifts off there so that when we get back we have an apartment full of presents! This is also perfect for us since we are getting married a good 1 500km from where we live, so getting the presents back home would be tricky.
Bespoke also gives you these beautiful cards to package with your invitations, explaining to people how your Bespoke registry works:
In fact, I love these so much that I had our invitations changed such that they are the exact same size as these.
Here are a few of my favourite things on our registry:
Pezula tripod lamp. Definitely a “contribute towards” item!
A Tiffany blue KitchenAid. *strokes computer screen lovingly*
Laguiole multi-coloured stationery. SC’s sister got us a mezze knife set from this brand as an engagement gift and it is just so gorgeous. And I love the mixed colours! It’s pricey, but possibly the thing I want most on this registry.
Some Le Creuset, in “Dune”. Casseroles, baking dishes, spatulas, cocottes, griddle pans… The list goes on, and it includes mugs in every colour. Of course. AND Le Creuset has kindly given a heart-shaped cocotte to each of Bespoke’s first 10 clients. Hoorah!
The sweetest little butter dish! [But ours has a bunny on it.]
Serve ware. We have several of these in different shapes and sizes, some on wood, some on slate.
We’ve added egyptian cotton bed linen, beautiful glassware, table linen, gorgeous handmade ceramics, wooden blocks and boxes, glass dome, vases, bar accessories, and everything else you could possibly think of. And getting stuff for free has never been more enjoyable, and convenient! In fact, I’m pretty sure I am going to use Bespoke to set up registries for every single one of my future birthdays. Also kitchen tea, baby showers, all of it! And my life will be a blissful existence of convenience and beautiful things and getting exactly what I want. How exciting is that thought?!
Check out Bespokeregistry.co.za and get in touch with Laura. Trust me.
You can check out our registry here. You know, to see how it all works. Or to buy us a present. If you feel like it…
